INTERNSHIP
IN TOKYO

Before you begin

A few useful answers.

Clarity helps you make a confident decision.

How much does the program cost?

A flat $500 placement fee (plus 10% sales tax), whatever the length of your internship. There is no separate application fee. Accommodation, travel, meals and insurance are budgeted separately. See typical living costs in Tokyo →

Is there a free or remote option?

Yes. Our partner program APro offers a free, remote-first 4-week AI Internship; you need your own Claude Pro subscription (about US$20 a month, paid to Anthropic). APro is separate from Internship in Tokyo. If you are Shortlisted and placed with a Tokyo host company through APro, there is no fee for you, because host companies pay. An in-person internship arranged directly through Internship in Tokyo is our own program, with the flat $500 placement fee.

Is this a paid internship?

IIT currently offers a fee-based educational program, not paid internships or a free service.

Do I need Japanese?

Language requirements depend on the host and project. Discuss your current level during the consultation. Interning in Japan without Japanese →

Is a placement guaranteed?

Availability depends on your profile, timing, interviews, and host agreement. Confirm the conditions in writing before committing.

Does the program include visa support?

Visa and administrative support are excluded from the published plan. Ask the team to clarify any separate support and confirm the requirements applicable to your situation before making travel arrangements. Read our overview of visa routes for interns →

Can I receive university credit?

Your school decides whether an internship meets its requirements. Share those requirements early so documentation and supervision can be discussed.

How does accommodation work?

Accommodation is not included in the $500 placement fee. The team helps you find a sharehouse room or private studio that suits your dates and budget; confirm availability, location and cost before you commit. Tokyo housing guide for interns →

How do I apply?

Can a company or school work with IIT?
